About:
Asocjacja Hagaw also knwn as "The Jazz Band Jeunesses Musiciales de Pologne" (!!!) is the most memorable example of trad revival in Polish jazz of 1960s. In order to describe Hagaw one word would be used: humor. The lucky one who will acquire this record will find in the Hagaw's performance the truest, liveliest, most colorful connections with the very sources of jazz. The Hagaw (the made as made up of the first letters of the founders' names) made its first appearance in May of 1964 in Warsaw's student club 'Stotola' (The Barn) at once arousing great interest among young public with their repertoires, original instruments and relaxed ways. Although Hagaw was often called "a mere band playing folk dances" their musical roots are really in the music of the swing era of 1930s. But does the style really matters? As band leader Grzegorz Brudko said: "Must we have to define our style? Will it make the listener happy when he learns that what we play is traditional jazz, swing or 'semi-dance music' - as our playing was once called by Willis Conover. Let's just continue our own style, which consist of...a lack of the style".
