About:
Goldberg Baroque Ensemble vocal-instrumental ensemble was established by Andrzej Szadejko, its conductor ever since, in 2008. The ensemble specializes in performing early Gdansk music in accordance with the instrumentarium conventions of the Baroque and Classical periods. The musicians forming the ensemble are Polish and foreign graduates of the renown European centers focused on early musical practice (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Royal Music Academies in London and the Hague). The instrumentalists play the authentic instruments or their copies. Under the name "Goldberg Vocal Ensemble", the vocalists of the group engage in acapella projects. Their output comprises concerts and prize-winning recordings.
Goldberg Baroque Ensemble is currently carrying out a recording project called The Musical Heritage of the City of Gdansk, presenting the music surviving in script in the collection of the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The collection includes thousands of mostly unknown compositions by Gdansk kapellmeisters and musicians, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philip Telemann, or Johann Jacob Froberger.
Christmas Cantatas in the premiere performance by Goldberg Baroque Ensemble under the direction of Andrzej Mikolaj Szadejko is a musical journey to eighteenth-century Gdansk. During that time students of Bach and Telemann were creating new masterpieces, inspired by works of their masters. The program on this CD was assembled directly from the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences' manuscripts, which taken from oblivion, sound today just like the days of their inception, due to implementation of historical instruments from the era.
