Review:
Daktari is led by trumpeter Algirdas Dokalskiego Warsaw group improvisers. Their music is an organic fusion of energy, noise, jazz improvisation and folk songs. They deal with avant-garde structure, but leave the musicians a lot of freedom. They have been inspired by Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Gastr Del Sol, Andrew Hill, Julius Hemphill and Don Cherry. Daktari was established in 2010 in Warsaw. They became known to the Warsaw audience by organizing Avant Jam Sessions at the club Gravity. hey also performed at various festivals: New Jewish Music 2011, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Warsaw, Singer, Heineken Opener (on the World Stage) and in the final of the Festival of Polish Radio New Tradition. In August 2011 the Multikulti label released their debut album, titled "This is the last song I wrote about Jews. Vol 1." The album was recorded "live, but in the studio" and has only their own compositions, which was influenced Klezmer music. Instead of playing the old sound, the band creates their own version of this music. This band reminds me of Hasidic New Wave with their great jazz/rock Klez melodies. If I didn't know any better, I would think that this is one of those Tzadik Radical Jewish Culture series releases. Daktari write strong melodies and can rock hard when they want to. Their guitarist takes a number of burning psychedelic solos that really made me feel great! Every song on this disc is strong and compelling. These guys rule! This might be the last song(s) that they write about Jews, but I somehow doubt it. (Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery)
From the editor:
Daktari is a group of improvising musicians: Olgierd Dokalski-trumpet, Mateusz Franczak-sax, Miron Grzegorkiewicz-guitar, Maciej Szczepanski-bass, Robert Alabrudzinski -drums. They strive to organically combine noise-rock energy, jazz improvisation and folk songs, and get inspiration from Sonic Youth, Gastr Del Sol, Andrew Hill, Julius Hemphill or Don Cherry. Their participation in 2011 New Jewish Music Festival in Warsaw was received enthusiastically. In May 2011 the group performed in the finals of the New Tradition Festival organized by the Polish Radio Broadcasting. The songs to be presented on the Tzadik Festival 2011 are group's own compositions from their debut record 'This is the last song I wrote about Jews Vol.1.'
