Wojciech Staroniewicz - Hand Made
One of the defining albums of the New Polish Jazz. The band plays acoustic jazz performed with a set of instruments untypical of this genre. The combination of the sax, accordion and guitar is quite surprising yet interesting. The repertoire is made up of their own pieces although a large number of standards is present as well as spontaneous improvisation. The music is based on the contemporary grooves even though the band plays without samples nor a DJ.

ZBIGNIEW NAMYSLOWSKI - Air Condition
To be successful, it is no longer enough to play Horace Silver themes. One shouldn't play material borrowed from records (...) I founded my own quartet and created my music to play what I want to and how I want to. (Zbigniew Namyslowski)

Zbigniew Namyslowski - Dances
Namyslowski cites John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Henderson as his favorite musicians but also draws inspiration from other sources, including blues, rock, and traditional Polish, Balkan, and Indian music. Namyslowski is also a very successful composer, including genres outside of jazz and encompassing anything from Polish version of funk to sophisticated pop music. In the field of composition, Namyslowski has created his own unique and easily recognizable language: the harmonic language, the swing that goes beyond the scale of musical transcription, the jazz tradition, and his always present appreciation of Polish music folklore.

Zbigniew Namyslowski - Kujaviak Goes Funky
One of the best, though short-lived groups led by Namyslowski was the 1974-76 Quintet with Karolak, Szukalski, Jarzebski and Bartkowski. These excellent jazzmen were lucky to record, in March 1975, rather unusual music by Namyslowski: the highly original pieces that sparked again the touchy problem of Polish folklore presence in jazz.

Zbigniew Namyslowski Quartet - Siodmawka
Jazz fills my life. It means to me everything - said Namyslowski in 1966, - Playing in quartet suits me the best...Until recently I did not set great store by composition. But now to be successful one cannot merely play Horace Silver's themes and other people's arrangements. And so I have created my own quartet and my own music, to be able play what I want and how I want. (Zbigniew Namyslowski)

Zbigniew Namyslowski The Q - Open
When I first visited Poland, I was quite unprepared to hear Polish musicians at so high level. Namyslowski was clearly the best. International voting has proved that audiences in Europe recognize the best Polish musician as among the best anywhere in the world. He honors 3 traditions, of jazz, of Polish, of himself. Anyone who misses Namyslowski is missing a unique source of creativity in 20th century. Namyslowski is a giant! (Willis Conover)

Zbigniew Seifert Quartet - Nora
Zbigniew Seifert, still considered one of the most prominent violinists in the history of Polish jazz, whose manner of playing the fiddle resembled the way Coltrane handled his saxophone. Yet Seifert was also a great saxophonist himself, and the new CD "Nora" fully corroborates this statement. All the tracks have been carefully remastered. The CD comes with a lavish booklet featuring a lengthy essay on the Quartet as well as some rare photographs of the band.

Łoskot - Sun
Łoskot is one of the most important groups in Poland. Its history is strongly connected with the beginning of the phenomenon of "yass scene" which is a socio-musical movement founded in the beginning of the 90-ties in Gdansk. In the beginning the main aim of yass artists was to oppose the rigid monopole of jazz music that existed then in Poland. After the years of transformations, the ideological aim of yass artists evolved to artistic values and LOSKOT became one of the main pillars of the transformation.
